Congratulations Del Muench (Fort Langley)

Congratulations Del Muench (Fort Langley)

Del Muench had a great race in the Annual Historic Half Marathon held recently in Fort Langley.

Del had an amazing race – running 21 km (13 miles) in 1 hour 25 minutes and 48 seconds, placing 22 out of 1140 participants. That meant taking a staggering 15 minutes off of his 2009 time.

Del is only 15 years old and has been an active member of the sprint team for a number of years.

Great race!

Salmon River Grand Opening

This event will be run by the Centre of Excellence White water club in Chilliwack on the Salmon river near Fort Langley- the site for the BC Summer Games in July this year.
The Flat water Slalom course is about 100m long with about 20 gates through which each paddler goes ( some upstream some downstream - like in white water racing) at 1 min intervals . Two runs for each person with combined times used for the final tally - somewhat like skiing and bobsled racing.

The clinic will give athletes a chance to familiarize themselves with the boat properties and paddle strokes that help with manoeuvring the gates.
They will work with some top white water athletes from Chilliwack that have competed successfully in National and International events. This is a great opportunity to get an introduction to Slalom racing particularly for those athletes wishing to go to the BC Summer Games in July.

This event in the Summer games will be a Train to train CS4L level( non white water paddlers) and an open class ( white water paddlers). BC Games coaches are to encourage all athletes to compete in this event and participate in the spirit and fun of this type of paddling.

This clinic is not limited to Potential Summer Games athletes and anyone is invited to try the slalom boat and develop other paddling skills.

Pitt Meadows Paddling Club to Host ICF World Marathon Qualifier

CKBC has just received confirmation of the successful bid to host a 2010 ICF World Marathon Qualifier, April 10th, 2010 in Pitt Meadows.  Details and registration will be available at http://canoekayakbc.sportical.com/events/386 .

Successful Island Camp

The spring weather posed some windy and wet weather on our Nanaimo and Victoria athletes (snow on the moutain-yeah), but fortunately with the variety of activities planned, they managed to escape the elements on the water. The base camp at a local home worked very well for those athletes that wanted an overnight camp experience, a team atmosphere for meals, and encouraged group transport to all of the activities for those whom participated. The variety of activities including: ice skating, swimming, kayaking, twister, pictionary, wilderness hiking, biking, x-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and night tubing. Local athletes that didn't want to stay overnight still were able to attend the practice sessions that they could make. The camp fee included all meals, transportation, activities, and coaching from March 15-19. It is likely this will be looked at as an option next year if there isn't sufficient interest for an In-Province Development Camp. The diversity of activites was great for this group of athletes 12-15yrs of age as they learned new skills and weren't discouraged by the poor weather for paddling (strong winds) that would have kept us off the water.  Thanks to our parent volunteers!

Burnaby Masters Camp

Burnaby masters will be showing their strength at the upcoming CANMAS Regatta in Regina later this season.  They are looking for paddlers both old and new to join their team and will be hosting a training camp on the weekend of April 10th and 11th.  Details are available at:  http://canoekayakbc.sportical.com/events/376

ALL masters are welcome to participate.
