World Canoeing Day Celebrations in Nanaimo
Nananimo Canoe and Kayak Club wanted to send out another big thank you to everyone for such a great event! World Canoe Day was another perfect event. We had over 250 people come out and paddle our boats. It was fantastic to see such support and enthusiasm from our members and the community.
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers. Rob, MJ, Stacey, Lianne, Kurt, Alex, Graham, Robert, Brandon, Brandon, George, Siana, Noel, Glen, Olivia, Chahid and anyone else who helped out. You brought wonderful energy and much needed support to the event. Everyone was raving about the friendly volunteers and tasty bbq! We also reached our volunteer target and Canoe Kayak BC will be donating an extra $500 to our club this year.
Thank you to our staff: Heather, Patrick, Meghan and Brenden for making sure we had a safe and well organized event. You all make the club the great organization that it is.
It was the first year that we worked with Alberni Outpost for World Canoe Day and we all agreed that we have to do it again next year. It was so exciting to see so many different kinds of boats on the water. The Alberni Outpost staff were a dream to work with. Richard's generous donation of the Old Town Vapor Kayak helped raise hundreds of dollars for the club. Thank you so much Richard and everyone at Alberni!
Congratulations to William who won the draw for the kayak, and to Jacob Oud who won a family membership for NCKC by staying up in a K1 kayak the longest. We hope that you will enjoy your new paddling experiences.
World Canoeing Day Celebrations in Pemberton
250 showed up to Boathouse Bash , the Grand Opening of the new Pemberton Canoe Association boathouse on International Canoe day. . Many new paddlers were introduced to canoe sports in Dragon boats and outriggers, white water and flatwater sprint boats while those more skilled tried their hand at paddling some of our newer craft. Our oldest paticipant was 92 yr old former Pemberton Mayor George Underhill. The boathouse represents four years of effort by local paddling volunteers. We now have a home for our boats and can move forward with sprint and outrigger small boat programs.
